Latina Magazine sent me to El Paso, Texas to photograph a story about the people who cross The Paso del Norte Bridge. The bridge connects the downtown area of Cuidad Juarez in Mexico to downtown El Paso in Texas. The two cities look like one from the air, but on the ground they are very much divided by the International border. One of the many differences is that Juarez is the most dangerous city in Mexico and El Paso is one of the safest in the U.S.
Every day up to 30,000 people cross the bridge on foot from Mexico into the US. People cross for a variety of reasons including school, work, shopping, entertainment and family get-togethers. Many families in the area have members living in both cities due to immigration issues and therefor must cross the border to see each other. There is also a micro economy of people crossing into the United States to buy inexpensive goods to bring back and sell in Mexico.
