    WEST PALM DOG PEOPLE

From the set \"West Palm Dog People.\" Photographed by David Kimelman in 2007.

On this visit, I decided to make portraits that focus on the relationships West Palm residents have with their little dogs.

    JAPANOPHILE 2

From the set \"Japanophile.\" Photographed by David Kimelman in 2007.

In November of 2007 I visited Japan with my friends Lisa and Sarah. I love Japan because everywhere you look there’s something completely fascinating and unexpected. We spent a week in Tokyo and Kyoto and then took an overnight train to Hokkaido, the northern most of Japan’s four main islands, where we spent another week.

    CAT PEOPLE SHOW

From the set \"Cat People Show/\" Photographed by David Kimelman in 2007.

Just Like the dogs, the cats get to have their day at Madison Square garden too. Unlike the dogs however, who get to show on the main floor of the arena, the cats are relegated to a slice of one of those really wide circular corridors you walk through when you’re trying to find your seats. The spatial constraints, however, have no effect on the enthusiasm of the owners or the spectators.

    WEST PALM, JULY

From the set \"West Palm, July\", photographed by David Kimelman in 2007.

Southern Florida is hot as balls in July, but my sister and I went down to west palm anyway to visit my grandfather while he was in the hospital (He’s better and at home now). Boomer retiree condo construction update: super-turbo mode.

    LEFT BEHIND

There was a brief period when the New York Times had mostly moved into it’s new building, but the old building was still open. A friend of mine who works for the Times took me on a tour of the now mostly vacant building. It was pretty interesting to see what had been left behind [...]

LOS ANGELES, THIS MAY BE LOVE

Untitled, from the set \"Los Angeles, This May Be Love\", photographed by David Kimelman in 2007.

These are pictures I took on my second visit to Los Angeles, the visit where I started to become a little obsessed with the place. I stayed and hung out mostly on the east side of town this time, which was much more my speed. I guess what I like about LA is that it’s [...]

    WEST PALM, JANUARY

Untitled, from the set \"West Palm, January\", photographed by David Kimelman in 2007.

The construction that began over the summer seems to be going full force now. Apparently it’s condos for the soon to be retiring baby-boomers.

    WEST PALM, AUGUST

Untitled, from the set \"West Palm, August\", photographed by David Kimelman in 2006.

My Grandparents live in West Palm Beach, Florida and I visit them there usually two or three times a year. I find it a fascinating place to take pictures. The area is very unusual. It’s a waspy jet-set destination, a Jewish retirement mecca, and an urban wasteland all at once.

    THE FAIR

Untitled, from the series \"The Fair\", photographed by David Kimelman in 2006.

“The Fair” is a series I did in the summer of 2006 as an extension to my series “Quality Times”. This time I was interested in the ways people enjoy themselves at communal event. Having the opportunity to go to both a county fair in Michigan and a Renaissance fair in Upstate New York, I [...]

    QUALITY TIMES

Untitled picture from the set Quality Times, photographed by David Kimelman

Quality Times is what I call the on going series of photos I take when I’m spending time with my Family at my parents house in Berks County, PA. This set was taken in the summer of 2006.
